The failed proposal would let eligible City of White homeowners receive a property tax exemption if lawmakers and voters approved it.
Eligible homeowners in the Bartow County special district could receive a City of White property tax exemption, with the amount tied to local sales tax proceeds.
The proposal would exempt some home value from City of White property taxes. It would cover homestead property in the Bartow County special district and apply only to City of White taxes. The annual exemption amount would depend on net proceeds from a new local sales tax collected in the special district. A homeowner would have to apply unless they received another City of White homestead exemption for the same home in the prior tax year and remain eligible. The exemption would be added to other homestead exemptions; any home value above the exempt amount would remain taxable. If the bill received two-thirds support in both chambers and voters approved it, the exemption would apply from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2039.
