If both legislative chambers and voters approve, eligible Patterson residents could get a city property tax exemption tied to local sales tax proceeds.
If both legislative chambers and voters approve, eligible Patterson residents in the Pierce County special district would get a city property tax exemption based on local sales tax proceeds.
Patterson would exempt part or all of an eligible home's assessed value from city property taxes. It would cover a resident's homestead in the Pierce County special district, and apply only to Patterson city taxes on the part of the property within that district. The exemption would take effect only if both legislative chambers approve it by the required two-thirds vote and more than half of votes cast in the city referendum support it. A resident must apply unless already receiving another Patterson homestead exemption for the same home and still eligible. After it is granted, the exemption renews each year while the resident lives there and remains eligible. Any home value above the exempt amount would remain taxable. If approved in the November 2026 referendum, the exemption would start January 1, 2027, and apply through December 31, 2039.
