Edison homeowners in the Calhoun County special district could receive an annual city property tax exemption if both legislative chambers and local voters approve the measure.
If voters approve, eligible homeowners would get an annual Edison city property tax exemption based on local sales tax proceeds. Property value above the exempt amount would still be taxed.
The measure would grant a homestead property tax exemption from Edison city taxes. It would cover residents with homestead property in the special district conterminous with Calhoun County, and would affect only Edison city taxes on property within that district. The measure would need a two-thirds vote in both legislative chambers and approval by more than half of the votes cast in the referendum. A homeowner would need to apply unless they received another Edison homestead exemption for the same property in the prior tax year and remain eligible; after approval, the exemption would renew each year while eligibility continues. The exemption would be added to other homestead exemptions, and property value above the exempt amount would remain taxable. If approved in the November 2026 referendum, the exemption would apply to tax years beginning January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2039.
