Each Sumter County school board member would be paid $500 a month.
Members could be repaid up to $3,000 a year for travel outside the county on board business, if a majority of the board approves the travel first. They could also join the district's group insurance plan.
The act rewrites Section 9 of the 2014 Sumter County board of education law to set monthly pay for each board member. It covers each member of the Sumter County Board of Education. It takes effect on the first day of the month after the Governor approves it or it becomes law without approval.
Members are entitled to expense repayment for out-of-county travel and may take part in the district's group insurance plan. It covers board members traveling outside the county on official board business, such as training sessions or state-wide meetings. A majority of the board must authorize the travel before it happens. Expenses must be approved and verified before repayment, in the manner the board sets. Insurance participation is allowed to the extent authorized in Code Section 20-2-55.
