Florida counts certain lab license applicants who meet federal testing standards as meeting state minimum qualifications, while still requiring proof, background screening, and fees.
Applicants who meet federal standards for high-complexity lab tests, or for moderate-complexity tests as technicians, count as meeting Florida’s minimum qualifications for that level of work.
The law counts certain applicants as meeting Florida’s minimum qualifications for the level of lab testing they meet federal requirements to perform. It covers technologist and technician applicants who meet federal requirements for high-complexity testing, and technician applicants who meet federal requirements for moderate-complexity testing. Applicants must provide proof of their qualification, complete required background screening, and pay required fees to be eligible for a license. This qualification rule does not apply where section 483.812 provides otherwise. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.
