Starting July 1, 2026, claimants calling about reemployment assistance can leave a number, and Commerce must call them back in order by the next business day.
Claimants calling Commerce about reemployment assistance can leave a number instead of staying on hold. The department must return those calls in order by the end of the next business day.
Commerce must report on how well the callback program works and recommend whether lawmakers should continue or expand it.
The Department of Commerce must use a callback queue and return covered calls in the order received. The rule covers calls to the Department of Commerce from claimants about reemployment assistance. A callback queue lets callers leave a number where they can be reached later instead of getting no answer or staying on hold. The law takes effect July 1, 2026. Covered calls must be returned by the end of the next business day after they are received.
The Department of Commerce must report on the pilot program to legislative leaders. The report goes to the Senate President and House Speaker. The report must cover how well the program works, suggested changes, and whether it should continue or expand. The department must submit the report on or before December 31, 2027.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
