Florida school districts must report their unimproved land to the Department of Education, which must publish a statewide report by December 1, 2026.
Each Florida school district must list its unimproved land every year, including each parcel’s location, use if any, and fair market value.
The Department of Education must publish a report showing how much unimproved land districts own, its value, and parcel details.
Each school district must send the Department of Education a full list of its unimproved land each year. Unimproved land is land owned wholly or partly by a district that has no buildings, permanent structures, or constructed facilities. For each parcel, the district must report its identification number, acreage, location, acquisition date, current use if any, and fair market value. The value must come from the latest county property assessment or an appraisal commissioned by the district within the previous 24 months. The list must cover land owned as of June 30 each year and is due by a date set by the department. The law took effect July 1, 2026.
The Department of Education must compile district data into a statewide report and publish it online. The report covers unimproved land owned by Florida school districts. The report must show statewide and district totals, each parcel’s identification number and acreage, and trends or findings the department considers relevant to land use or long-range facilities planning. The first report must appear on the department’s website by December 1, 2026, with another report every three years after that.
