Florida keeps uterine fibroid research records confidential
Since July 1, 2026, Florida law keeps records about women with uterine fibroids confidential when they are sent to the Department of Health for research.
1
What it does
Records and identifying information about women diagnosed with or treated for uterine fibroids are confidential when sent to the Department of Health under the research database law.
Argument forKeeping personal medical details confidential could protect women’s privacy when the Department of Health uses their information for research.
Argument againstKeeping these records from public view could make it harder for people to review how the Department of Health handles the research database.
More detail
The law makes covered records and identifying information confidential and exempt from public records disclosure. It covers records and personal identifying information about women diagnosed with or treated for uterine fibroids that are sent to the Department of Health under this section. The exemption took effect July 1, 2026, and is set to end October 2, 2031, unless the Legislature reviews and renews it.
