The law requires district voters to decide by October 1, 2026, whether the City of Plantation will take over the district's governing board.
If a majority of district voters approve, the City of Plantation takes over the district's governing board. The district's existing assets, debts, contracts, and policies continue under city oversight.
District voters decide whether the Plantation Acres Improvement District becomes a dependent district of the City of Plantation. The district covers specified land in Broward County. If conversion takes effect, the city council and mayor serve as its governing board. The conversion takes effect only if a majority of qualified district voters who vote approve it. The stand-alone referendum must be held by October 1, 2026, and the district pays for it. If voters approve, the conversion takes effect October 1, 2026; from then on, the district may only wind down its affairs and may not take on new debt or obligations.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
