People and organizations with eligible vehicles may apply for a Delaware State Education Association plate, issued only after at least 200 applications and payment of a $50 initial fee.
The Division of Motor Vehicles issues the Education Association plate only after receiving at least 200 applications. It is for eligible vehicles rated at 26,000 pounds or less, but not vehicles that qualify for the International Registration Plan.
Applicants pay a $50 one-time fee plus the annual registration fee. After promotion and administrative costs, remaining proceeds go to the Education Association Fund to support quality education for all students.
The Division approves the plate’s design, and its number and letters match the owner’s current plate. Previously issued centennial plates remain valid.
The Division of Motor Vehicles issues the special plate only after it receives at least 200 applications. The plate is for private passenger vehicles and motor vehicles or trailers rated at 26,000 pounds or less; individuals and organizations may own the latter vehicles. Vehicles that qualify for the International Registration Plan cannot receive this plate. The Division must receive at least 200 applications before it issues the plate.
Applicants pay a $50 one-time fee, including a $15 administrative fee, in addition to the annual registration fee. The initial fee applies to everyone who applies, including members of nonprofit organizations. The full initial fee is required even if an applicant belongs to a nonprofit organization and is exempt from registration fees. The Division uses the administrative portion to promote plate sales and administer this section. Remaining proceeds go to the Delaware State Education Association Fund to support quality education for all students. The Division sets a replacement plate fee that covers the plate’s cost. The $50 fee is due with the initial application; a replacement fee is due when someone gets a replacement plate.
The Division gives final approval to the plate’s color and design, and assigns the same number and letters as the owner’s current plate. These rules apply to plates issued under this section. The design may replace “The First State” with “Delaware State Education Association,” cannot be only black and white, and may be refused if the Division believes it could cause a public safety enforcement problem. Previously issued centennial plates remain valid. The design and matching-number rules apply to plates issued under this section; earlier centennial plates remain valid.
