Eligible vehicle owners may apply for a Delaware State University plate. The division issues the plates only after receiving at least 200 applications, and applicants pay a one-time $65 fee plus the annual registration fee.
The non-administrative part of each $65 fee goes to a state fund for Delaware State University. Any administrative money left after plate promotion and program costs also goes to that fund.
Eligible vehicle owners may apply to the motor vehicle division for a Delaware State University plate. The plate is available for private passenger vehicles and certain motor vehicles, including trucks or trailers, rated at 26,000 pounds GVWR or less. Trucks eligible for the International Registration Plan cannot receive one. The division must receive at least 200 applications before it issues the plates. The initial application requires a one-time $65 fee in addition to the vehicle’s annual registration fee.
The motor vehicle division deposits the non-administrative portion of the one-time fee with the state treasurer for Delaware State University’s deposit in its fund. This applies to money collected from the one-time $65 fee for Delaware State University plates. The division first uses the administrative fee to promote plate sales and administer the section; any amount left from that fee also goes to the university fund.
