California FAIR Plan would post quarterly policy counts by ZIP code
Under the signed law, California’s FAIR Plan would post quarterly policy counts by ZIP code and information about the insurance risk it carries.
1
What it does
Under the signed law, the FAIR Plan would post quarterly figures on its website showing policies issued in each ZIP code and the insurance risk it carries.
The FAIR Plan would no longer have to list its toll-free number in California’s general phone directories. It would still keep the number and share it in every message to applicants and policyholders.
Argument forResidents could compare quarterly policy counts across ZIP codes to see where the FAIR Plan issues more policies.
Argument againstRemoving the directory listing could make the help number harder to find for people who rely on phone books.
More detail
The FAIR Plan would post policy and risk figures on its website. The figures would show policies issued in each ZIP code and the insurance risk the plan carries. The FAIR Plan would post the figures every quarter.
The signed law would remove the FAIR Plan’s phone directory listing duty. The removed duty covered general phone directories throughout California. The FAIR Plan would still keep a toll-free number and include it in every message to an applicant or policyholder.
