Starting January 1, 2028, sports facilities may provide AEDs for permitted youth practices and matches, while sports groups must find one if none is available.
A sports facility may obtain and maintain an AED for permitted youth practices or matches, and must make it accessible to the youth sports group if it does.
If the facility has no AED available, the youth sports group must make sure an operational one is accessible for the entire practice or match.
Facilities with an AED must maintain and test it under the maker’s instructions and applicable government rules. A facility already doing so under another law meets this requirement.
Facilities must work with youth sports groups to make installed AEDs accessible and discuss ways to share costs for installation, upkeep, and access.
Facilities may obtain and maintain an AED, and must let the sports group access it when they do. This applies to public or private local facilities with permanent sports infrastructure that host permitted youth sports practices or matches. A local educational agency counts as providing access only when the AED is in the same common area or field, or is externally attached and reasonably accessible; staff do not have to stay onsite. These requirements begin January 1, 2028.
The youth sports group must ensure access to an operational AED for the full practice or match if the facility does not have one available. This applies when an official practice or match takes place at a public or private local facility without an available AED. This requirement begins January 1, 2028.
Facilities must maintain and test their AEDs under the maker’s guidelines and applicable government rules. This applies to public or private local facilities with an AED. A facility already maintaining or testing an AED under another law is treated as meeting this requirement. The facility requirement begins January 1, 2028.
Facilities must work with youth sports groups to make installed AEDs accessible and discuss sharing related costs. This applies when a public or private local facility has installed an AED for use during practices or matches it permits. The facility and sports group must identify ways to share costs; the text does not require either side to pay a set amount or to install an AED.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
