More detail
Health plans and insurers would have to let a person enroll in or change an individual health plan because they are pregnant. This would apply to individual health plans offered inside or outside California’s health insurance Exchange. For plans offered through the Exchange, federal rules may allow more than 60 days. A health plan’s willful violation of this requirement would be a crime. The 60-day period would begin on the date of the pregnancy triggering event. A longer period could apply to Exchange plans if federal rules provide one.
