1
What it does
School agencies would be allowed to use the share of community school awards they can keep, up to 10%, to lead multiple eligible campuses in a Promise Neighborhood.
Local school agencies that keep a share of awards for eligible community school campuses would have to spend it in line with the state's guide for running those schools.
Argument forLetting school agencies lead multiple eligible campuses in a Promise Neighborhood could help them coordinate services across those schools.
Argument againstLeading multiple eligible campuses in a Promise Neighborhood could leave less retained money for staff training at those schools.
More detail
Local school agencies would be allowed to use retained award money to lead a school network. The network must cover multiple eligible school campuses located in a Promise Neighborhood. An agency's retained share is capped at 10% of its awards for eligible campuses. The agency would have to spend that money in line with the state's guide for running community schools. The new spending option would apply to money an agency retains each fiscal year.
Local school agencies would have to follow the state's community schools guide when spending retained award money. This covers up to 10% of awards for eligible community school campuses that an agency keeps. The rule would apply whether an agency spends the money on network leadership or other allowed work. The requirement would apply to money retained each fiscal year.
