The state would have to send the EPA an exceptional event demonstration when a wildfire over 25,000 acres on federal land sends smoke or damage into Arizona.
The department would have to submit an exceptional event demonstration to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency after a large wildfire on federal land. This applies to a wildfire larger than 25,000 acres on federally managed land whose smoke or land damage affects Arizona. The department must also write policy statements for identifying air quality exceptional events, taking into account Arizona's unique geology, geography, and climate and any other unusual circumstances. It must develop those statements with the certified planning agency and the county air pollution control department or district.
