Colorado law sends unspent revolving fund money to a trust fund that supports public safety communications equipment and upkeep for state agencies and other system users.
At the end of each fiscal year, leftover money in the public safety communications revolving fund goes to the public safety communications trust fund.
The trust fund supports communications systems and equipment for state agencies and other users. It may also pay their upkeep, including rented equipment and tower costs.
The state treasurer credits leftover, uncommitted money in the revolving fund to the trust fund. This applies to money left in the revolving fund that has not been spent or committed. The transfer happens at the end of each fiscal year.
The trust fund supports public safety communications systems and equipment, and may pay system users’ maintenance costs. Covered users include the state communications office, state departments, and other system users. Maintenance costs may include rented equipment, infrastructure upkeep, tower leases, and payments to local governments for radio systems. The department distributes the money under rules adopted under state law. The systems must meet federal public safety communications plan requirements.
