Eligible borrowers would qualify to pause payments toward the amount borrowed, with no interest building during the pause. Borrowers must be serving in a medical or dental internship or residency program. Only loans made under the part of the Higher Education Act being amended would be covered. The payment pause and interest waiver would apply during the deferment, the approved period for delaying repayment.
